ABSTRACT ALCHEMY - Forms, Spirit, and the Fabric of Reality.
This exhibition captures the transformative and profound nature of abstract art, hinting at the artist's ability to transform ideas and emotions into captivating visual experiences through abstract forms. The works are imbued with a magical and profound transformation of elements, a result of the exploration of fundamental visual components and their deeper meanings in the work of these three artists: Rodrigo Spinel, Neerja Chandna and Alejandra Quintanilla. Each artist brings a unique perspective and a singular approach to this compelling group show.
Rodrigo Spinel This series of ink drawings on different surfaces, depicting the solstices and equinoxes of the year through the overlapping of shadows at various times of the day. These shadows suggest the outline of invisible structures, similar to frameworks of beams and columns, which appear static but are actually in motion in relation to the sun.
The technique used is based on the repetition of parallel lines at different angles and colors, a meticulous and meditative process that records the passage of time, stroke by stroke. Although the images are static, the work highlights the difficulty of perceiving movement and the passage of time without a fixed reference, inviting reflection on how the sun and its shadows reveal that everything is in constant transformation.
Neerja Chandna enjoys achieving fluid harmony through the play of lines, their symmetrical synchronicity and rhythmic interplay, manipulating tones, saturation, and values, thus creating subtle optical movement with their variable refrangibility. In her compositions, lines and light are not merely aesthetic choices but act as conduits leading the viewer to a space of stillness and contemplation. Over time, she has come to understand that clarity often lies in reduction. A single color or the movement of a line can evoke a profound resonance when approached with intention. This practice focuses as much on the process as the result. It is about finding balance, not only on the canvas, but within. The act of creating becomes a reflection of this alignment, a moment when the finite touches the infinite, and the work itself becomes an offering. Alejandra Quintanilla The artist’s paintings presents an explosive variety of abstract shapes and striking colors, which dynamically intertwine. The organic shapes suggest movement, as if caught in an eternal dance, evoking the chaos and beauty of a wild garden or an abstract landscape. The process of creating a painting leaves behind a series of elements that become the starting point for a new piece. A mark, a line, color and shape become elements of a new painting as well as subject matter. Making the viewer aware of both time and process in painting. t’s a series that is self-referential while at the same time keeping in mind the history of abstract art.
