Mara Blanco’s [ @artstudio.mara ] exhibition is conceived as a necessary respite from contemporary visual overload. In a context dominated by the fast pace and consumption of images, her work invites us to pause and look closely.
Her portraits, painted from life, do not seek to represent or idealise, but rather to capture a presence. Constructed using flat colours and imbued with strong expressiveness, the faces seem to spill out of the frame, creating a tension between the visible and the emotional. More than mere images, they function as encounters: each work is an exercise in honesty and empathy towards the other.
The exhibition invites visitors to slow down and immerse themselves in the rhythm of the painting. In that exchange of glances, the individual becomes universal, and emotions—melancholy, hope, memory—resonate with the viewer.
There is an ethical and also a political dimension to this exhibition: it champions the attentive gaze as a form of recognition. The exhibition thus becomes a space where, even amidst the noise, it is still possible to connect with what is essential.
