Description
What interests me most here is the coexistence of fragility and strength. There is something vulnerable about the expression, a certain melancholy that shines through in the eyes and in the reserved gesture. However, this vulnerability does not come across as a weakness, but rather as a form of honesty. The figure seems at ease with her own contradictions, aware of her wounds and her life's journey.
Rather than simply depicting a specific person, this portrait speaks of the experience of dwelling within oneself. It is the image of someone who has lived through difficulties, learning experiences and changes, yet retains an open outlook on the world. The painting seeks to capture precisely this emotional truth: that of a person who presents themselves as they are, without masks, and who allows their humanity to fill the space completely.
Presentation
Mara Blanco Baumann 1994
Portraits that emerge from real-life encounters. I paint from life and see the portrait as an act of attentiveness. Through time, conversation and observation, a space is created in which people become visible beyond their roles.
I am not interested in outward resemblance, but in a person's emotional presence. Colour becomes a language that reveals vulnerability, strength and humanity.
In an age of fleeting images, these portraits invite us to look more slowly. What remains is the emotional trace of an authentic encounter.
“I understand the portrait as an ethical and profoundly human act."
