Arezki-Aoun is an Algerian artist born in 1955 in Algeria. He graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1983 and has taught at the European School of Image since 1999. He lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine.
At the start of the 1980s, Arezki-Aoun produced a series of environments, space installations and environmental sculptures. Since 1992, he has devoted himself exclusively to painting. Arezki-Aoun cultivates in his paintings a sort of apotheosis of silence, an apology for the suspended gesture in his characters.
His line is more diluted than in Hopper and diverts him from anecdote or prosaism. It is detached from the philosophy of figuration: the subject is shown, designated but his presence is conditioned by a focus no longer visual but mental. The spectator then seems to touch the deep intimacy of the character and his painting is revealed with real simplicity and modesty.
His works have been visible since 1983 in numerous personal and group exhibitions as well as in certain public collections such as the FNAC or the Institut du Monde Arabe.
