Biography

Helga Leunig is a Documentary Photographer whose work draws attention to the everyday beauty in people, places and communities. She works intuitively and is influenced by the Japanese concept of wasi-sabi. The aesthetic principle that there is beauty and integrity in things which are imperfect, incomplete and impermanent.

"If an object or expression can bring about in us, a sense of serene melancholy and spiritual longing, then that object could be said to be wabi-sabi". Helga's work is often described as containing a quiet quality which is calming to the spirit.
