Christian Cadelli was born in Belgium in 1953 into a family of craftsmen from Friuli. His apprenticeship in the basic techniques of working with gypsum was naturally given in the workshop by his father, a professional craftsman graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. To approach modeling and sculpture, he was interested in several natural materials and their associations, as well as the various patinas that can be applied to them in the final. Constantly the fruit of research, his achievements are often constructions resulting from assemblies of natural stones, terracotta or wood, amalgams relatively little used in sculpture. Resolutely contemporary, these creations are sometimes inspired by primitivism but always loaded with emotional content. In other words, the expression is always present. Christian Cadelli is a member of the Taylor Foundation, Paris. "The theme of the woman is very often approached in Cadelli, 'a morphology always slender, elongated, as pushed towards the sky, each representation of the woman touches us by its refinement. In each work, it appears to us as timeless and resulting from distant horizons. She dances. She offers herself. She inspires. As she inspired so many poets, including Aragon, "woman is the future of man" ... It is on a metallic skeleton, sometimes apparent at the level of the legs, that the sculptor will then model the body and almost always the garment which dresses it. The latter being clearly visible both by its shape and by the design of the fabric evoked. These are precisely the stone shards or of wood or leather inserted in the gypsum which authorizes such a representation of dresses and skirts sometimes tight, sometimes flying, never any rigidity. At first glance, one has the impression that these frail and racy silhouettes are floating in the air. 'space. That at the slightest v ent they could fall. But on closer inspection, the balance that seemed fragile to us becomes very real. The main line, by its accuracy, holds the work upright. "
