Presentation

Dalva Duarte is an explorer. Each place in the world, every encounter, every reading inspires and nourishes her creation. A shade of clay, a seed to be crushed – all is attraction. All that makes material, everything that makes color becomes a new land to explore.

Born in Brazil in 1949, she lived in the United States, in London and in Paris, before installing her studio in an old silk mill in the South-East of France. Here she created 24 Caprices, 24 monumental paintings to which she devoted ten years. The masterpiece is an open book about her life fed by the sound of the violin and all that this inspires in her.

In her new work, Dalva Duarte focuses on The Legend of Mazeppa. Another land to explore where she continues to unfold the thread of her emotions. A symbol of freedom and determination, Mazeppa and his powerful horse guide her towards a new introspection. The shells, which she had already crushed have given way to the great classics of literature. The desire to create is always palpable, inexhaustible, like the horse of Mazeppa.

Through the legend, Dalva Duarte tells not only Lord Byron’s poem, but all that she sees into it, which is beyond words. The diary of a whole lifetime.
