Biography

Antonio José dos Santos, known as Antonio de Olinda, was born in Olinda, a small town near Recife, in 1966. Loving art since his childhood, and living in Olinda, near the sea, he started working in a theater of puppets.

In 1984, he took part in his first collective exhibition, the same year he won one of the prizes at the "New Pernambuco" Fair and won first place in the Telephone List Competition of the state of Pernambuco, a position he held. the following year until 1987. By diversifying his work, he produced stage sets for the films Baile Perfumado (1986) and O Cangaceiro (1996). In 1988, he took part in a collective exhibition with Ernane Cortat and Diva Goulart at the Galerie Jacques Ardies.

He made his first solo exhibition at the Brazilian Art Cabinet of painter Crisaldo Morais, in 1988 in Recife, three years later at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Olinda and, in 2001 and 2003, at the Jacques Ardies Gallery in Sao Paulo. In 2004, he participated in the Naive Biennial of Piracicaba, organized by the Association of Merchants of the State of Sao Paulo.
