José Cori transforms the scenes of life in semi-abstract patterns with a colorful vibrancy. The color is itself erected as the artist's muse and reveals itself in a graphic work that gives paint the ingenuity of the drawing. The artist frees himself from the illusion of volume to work on the pictural surface, thus providing a profoundly moving emotion.
The figures are turned into silhouettes with uncertain faces: everything is a pretext for pattern sets and colourful associations, referencing Latin tonalities of his childhood Chile. Innovative painter, José Cori also references the masters of art history. In the course of his works, a tribute to Vuillard can rub shoulders with a reference to Picasso and enter into a dialogue with Hellenistic statuary. Born in Germany in 1989, José Cori was the subject of numerous exhibitions and residencies between Santiago de Chile and Berlin, after studying art in Chile.
