Huang Ziyi (b. 1995, Xiamen) is a Hangzhou-based oil painter whose travel- and life-inspired works explore shifting feelings of intimacy and estrangement between people and their surroundings.

Biography

Huang Ziyi (b. 1995, Xiamen) is an oil painter based in Hangzhou. He holds BFA, MFA, and PhD degrees from the China Academy of Art. He is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), the International Council of Visual Arts (ICVA), the Post-90s Painting Society, the Zhejiang Artists Association, and the Zhejiang Oil Painting Association.

His international experience includes an exchange at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2024 and artist residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris from 2018 to 2019 and in Viļaka, Latvia, in 2025.

Inspired by travel and everyday life, Huang explores the shifting relationship between individuals and their surroundings, particularly the tension between unfamiliarity and intimacy. His works have been exhibited across China, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and Latvia, with solo exhibitions in Hangzhou and Xiamen. His work has received several awards and is held in institutional and private collections, including the Viļaka Museum, Dafen Art Museum, and Moon Lake Art Museum.
