Chan Ky-Yut

Chan Ky-Yut was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, in southern China. He lives and works in the Outaouais, Canada. From childhood, he learned calligraphy from his doctor grandfather. As a teenager, he became interested in Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. He also practices the arts of the moving body. After studying etymology and Chinese literature in Hong Kong, he founded a "new" school which he directed for a few years. 1971 He creates two painting workshops in Hong Kong. The artist never ceases to question himself and bring changes to his art. He abandons figuration for a new language of form and space. 1977 His travels in Asia, Europe and America allow him to deepen his vision of art. 1978 He moved to Ottawa, Canada. The expression of emptiness takes on great importance in his painting. 1988 His prolific work (painting, sculpture, stained glass, artists' books) continues to travel through America, Europe and Asia through numerous exhibitions.
