Chéri Samba

Democratic Republic of Congo Born in: 1956 Masterpieces

Born in 1956 in Kinto M'Vuila, DRC. Lives and works in Kinshasa, DRC.

In 1972, he settled in Kinshasa, where he earned his living as an advertising signs painter while making comic strips for his magazine Bilenge info.

Few years later, he transposed its Comic strips on canvas, thus inaugurating the bubble painting. It sets out the facts of society, manners, sexuality, illness, social inequalities, corruption etc. He quickly reached a great popularity, all Kinshasa knows him.

In 1980, he introduced himself as a narrator in his painting, for people to know his reflexion but also his face. Always colorful and often glittery as a way to play down these dramatic subjects.
