Presentation
John Kenny is a self-taught photographer who fell in love with this art in 2003. John Kenny's stunning portraits from Africa document a series of tribal societies justly proud of their traditions and cultural heritage. As the continent becomes increasingly urbanized and environmental pressures grow on peoples living at the peripheries of the modern world such images have become precious, rare insights.
John Kenny has photographed in regions that stretch from the southern valleys of Ethiopia and harsh desert of northern Kenya, across to the arid hinterlands of West Africa, and beyond to the southern desert regions of Namibia and Angola. Faces emerge from the shadows illuminated by a soft and diffuse natural light.
“Lines that lead to perfection” was auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York in November 2011. A book of his images “Facing Africa / L’Afrique en face” was published in 2013.
