Biography

Peder Mørk Mønsted was a Danish realist painter, known for his portrayals of landscapes. Mønsted studied under several prominent Dutch painters at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. 

Mønsted's depictions of the Danish coast and countryside are celebrated for their romantic, idyllic scenes. His mixed-media compositions (oil, gouache and watercolor) were lauded for the way in which they captured light and atmosphere. An extensive traveler, he visited many countries including Greece, where he completed a series of portraits of the Greek royal family. Mønsted died in Denmark, in 1941.
