Bertrand Mogniat-Duclos. Painter of the School of Paris.

Born in Sedan in the Ardennes on August 24, 1903, died in Paris in 1987.

His studio was located in Montparnasse at 72 rue Notre‑Dame des Champs Paris VIème.

Genre painter, figures, nudes, animated landscapes, still lifes, draftsman.

He settled early in Paris. He made frequent visits to Italy, notably to Venice. He also painted Parisian landscapes and in several regions of France. He participated in numerous Salons and Collective Exhibitions in France and abroad, between 1926 and the 1950s. He also exhibited on a personal basis in Parisian galleries, in 1930, 1940, 1948 and until 1955, especially at the Galerie Katia Granoff.

He worked a lot in the company of Amédée de La Patellière, and kept the sense of a firm construction of volumes and the balance of the composition. Academician René Huyghe places him in the spirit and sensitivity of the generation which includes, among others, La Patellière, Charles Dufresne, Gromaire. We could also say that he animates his landscapes with pensive characters. From all of his paintings emerges a sense of calm.

According to the classification used in the book "Les Contemporains" by René Huygue (Writer, Academician, Curator of the Louvre Museum, Curator of the Museum of Washington) in 1949 at Editions Pierre Tisne, the work of Mogniat-Duclos is part of the point meeting of the expressionism of the beginning of the century with the new generation.

Mogniat-Duclos worked a lot with Amédée de La Patelliere with whom he was a friend. He kept the sense of composition by bringing a colorful personal note imbued with symbolism.

Mogniat-Duclos painted Paris a lot, the banks of the Seine, the booksellers, the Ile Saint-Louis, the Grand Palais in its bluish mist, the Luxembourg garden close to his studio but above all the life of the cafes in Montaparnasse where he met with the Montparnos. Mogniat-Duclos worked in the Loiret where he made several stays from 1936 to 1946 from which he brought back his landscapes on the banks of the Ouanne with its houses and washhouses and its relaxed way of life.

He made several stays in Italy from which he brought back magnificent colored canvases: Venice (1934), Intra, Laveno.
