Now Make Me Cry, 2026

Sakurako Hamaguchi   Best sellers

Sakurako Hamaguchi creates paintings that evoke the half-formed memories, dreams, and sensations carried from childhood into adult life. Rather than depicting specific narratives, her works unfold as emotional landscapes where fragments of figures, colors, symbols, and gestures emerge and dissolve across the canvas.

Working intuitively with layered marks, translucent washes, and vibrant passages of color, Hamaguchi constructs spaces that feel simultaneously familiar and elusive. Her compositions invite viewers to navigate between recognition and ambiguity, recalling the way memories shift, overlap, and transform over time.

Influenced by Japanese visual culture while remaining deeply personal in approach, her paintings explore the fragile boundary between inner experience and external reality. Through this process, ordinary recollections become poetic and universal, allowing viewers to encounter traces of their own forgotten emotions and childhood perceptions.

Awarded the Gold Prize and the Yoshitomo Nara Prize at GEISAI, founded by Takashi Murakami, Hamaguchi's works are included in major public collections, including the collection of The National Museum of Art, Osaka.
