Biography
Born in Bordeaux, France in 1930, Alain Gourdon (known professionally as Aslan) was a painter, sculptor, printmaker and pin-up artist. From his career-long contributions to France’s Lui magazine, to his iconic bust of Brigitte Bardot as the Fifth Republic Marianne, Aslan is remembered as one of France’s greatest contemporary artists.
Over the course of his career, the artist was awarded several prizes in recognition of his work. In 1948, he was awarded the Prix d'Esprez de l'Institut, following the creation of a bust of dramatic author René Bruyez. The artist died in 2014, in Canada where he spent the final years of his life.
