Presentation

Anmarie Léon loves memories: memories of past emotions, memories of faces she meets, memories of objects she gleans over time. They are her source of inspiration. From her emotions and experiences, she creates her unique works around accumulation.

Sculptures, mixed media on canvas, ceramics her creative universe is vast. Colors, shapes and textures take shape.  The artist realizes his assemblies and creates works that in turn will take us back to our own memories.

Series of totems or "Tothemes

The Totems of Anmarie Léon are filled with precious objects, finds, charms, good luck charms or old relics, like walls of memories for those who will find forgotten objects or real cabinets of curiosities for those who will let themselves go to browse them in detail.

These objects, sometimes rescued from the clutter, miraculously found in an attic, recovered at the bottom of a garden or unearthed in a corner, are grouped around a theme dear to the artist at the time of its creation: car, kitchen, childhood ...

The artist sorts them, washes them, takes care of them and assembles them meticulously. They come back to life and are sacralized in these symbolic works.

Series of portraits or The art of the imaginary portrait

Anmarie Léon models faces in clay, thousands of faces. Like a portrait gallery of an allegorical museum of man, she delivers her own vision of the face of humanity.

She builds her work on a meticulous observation of the faces that cross her path. Seeking to capture the essence of the features, to appropriate the physical and moral characters of the subject, she interprets the intimate feelings that she imagines hidden, retained behind the lines of the face. The resemblance is not her goal but rather the diversity of faces: realistic or very freely embodied, academic or caricatured, grotesque or romantic...

Anmarie Léon plays with the sensitive appearances that disguise reality, sees beyond the strict physical appearance and offers us her contemporary perception of the reflection of man.
