Biography

Camille Claudel was a French sculptor. Born in 1864, Claudel studied at the Académie Colarossi. She was taught by many successful sculptors including Auguste Rodin, with whom she had a relationship. 

Claudel experienced little commercial success during her lifetime, enduring significant censorship as a female artist and for her portrayals of sexuality. 


Today, her works can be found in the collections of several international institutions including the Musée d'Orsay and the Courtauld Institute. The Musée Camille Claudel opened in France in 2017. Claudel died in France in 1943.
