Contrary to what one might think, Isshogai is not Japanese but French. He chose his last name, which means 'for life' in the Land of the Rising Sun, on an internet forum, just like any other pseudonym. This pseudonym proved lucky for him, as he has since become one of the most sought-after fashion photographers.
However, nothing predisposed him to this career. With a BTS degree in computer science, Isshogai started working as a customer support technician in an electronics company. He then became an auxiliary regulator in an emergency medical service (SAMU) and later an information security engineer at EADS.
It wasn't until 2003, when he was already in his thirties, that he started getting into photography. The reason: he was given an S-5000 camera. What started as a hobby quickly became more serious when he was laid off by his employer. Isshogai then enrolled in the renowned Gobelins school to pursue professional training in "analog and digital photography."
Everything started happening very quickly after that. With a lot of motivation and a very "cinematic" personal style, the thirty-something beginner started gaining recognition. He eventually gained admission into the exclusive circle of fashion photography and never looked back. Designers from around the world now seek him out, and his shots can be found in top magazines or displayed on billboards in 4x3 format.
