Biography
Damien Berrard (born in Lyon in 1974) is a self-taught visual artist whose pictorial practice falls within the fields of abstract expressionism, free figuration and gestural painting.
After founding Galeries DB & Co during his residency in Spain—an innovative project combining a physical home gallery, digital distribution via NFTs, and cryptocurrency sales—he was invited to create, upon his return to France, a permanent exhibition at the medieval castle of Varennes-lès-Mâcon in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. While this institutional recognition marks an important step in the dissemination of his work, the artist cultivates a resolutely independent approach, outside of established codes. His works nevertheless circulate internationally, supported by a community of collectors sensitive to his unique approach, contributing to a constantly rising rating on the contemporary collection market.
Her painting is distinguished by a direct gesture—working by hand, with a knife, in successive layers—and by the use of raw media such as acrylic, pigments, or collages. She explores the tensions between pictorial material, the emotional charge contained in each surface, and the presence of gesture in the space of the painting—with a direct approach, free from academic codes.
Today, he is developing the concept of artistic life annuity—a form of alternative patronage based on income and inheritance, which explores the lasting connections between the artist, the work, and the collector. This approach opens a window into new models of support for modern creativity.
