Stéphanie Cazaentre is a graduate of Decorative Arts in Paris. She is a director and textile designer. She trained in weaving at the Haut Anjou workshop and then learned embroidery, basketry, macramé and giant lace.
“While working on the MAISON JARDIN project, a series of 20 embroidered drawings in collaboration with the designer Singeon, I became aware that embroidery involves long, solitary work linked to the domestic space.
In parallel with this work, I wanted to bring this medium beyond the walls of my home. I therefore create embroidered sketches from life in a deliberately shorter working time. I thus confront so-called domestic work with the outside world and meet an unexpected audience. I am taking advantage of this experience to challenge preconceived ideas about embroidery.
I create my embroidered sketches in a public and urban space, a café or a museum, during drawing sessions lasting between 2 and 2.5 hours. I also embroider on request, at the location of your choice.
I currently run an embroidery club at the Paris Anim Wangari Maathai Center in the 20th, as part of a research residency around embroidered material in its plastic, collective and social approach. This residency culminated in the Paysages Organiques exhibition presented at the Center in 2023."
