Biography
When asked about the message in his work and his technique, the artist replied: "there is nothing to say, I would like to awaken an emotion in the heart of the beholder".
From the trace left by the charcoal on paper, to the intensity of the lines that thicken until they become pitch black, Philippe Torrecilla dresses the nude body in shadows and reliefs.
He does not make the models disappear under their flesh, he draws them in their movements and postures. There is something in the treatment of these bodies, which are fighting alone, or against each other, that brings the artist closer to being a sculptor than a draughtsman or a painter. We spectators of their struggle, have the impression that they are expecting us to look so that they can set themselves free and start moving.
