Biography
Lawrence Carbonell, born in 1971, grew up in Catalonia, close to Perpignan (France). After a short stint in comics, music took ten years of his life. He gravitated around painting without actually approaching it. His father is a painter, so Laurent Carbonell started painting at the age of 25. It was the biggest shock of his life, and despite working other jobs, he has not stopped since.
He painted abstract for ten years, it is a difficult school, especially for a self-taught artist as himself . But he was missing something, he needed to get messages. Figurative painting came to him naturally. He wanted an understandable and quite soft figuration to share sometimes complicated or difficult messages.
The techniques he uses are very personal, he mixes many techniques... oil, acrylic, pigments, oil pastels, etc. His paintings are almost always open, and he likes to see floating characters, often alone, in comic-dramatic positions. They allow him to tell life as he sees it. A bittersweet life, where small pastel dramas come one after another.
