Alexandre Mussard

The plastic work of Alexandre Mussard (born in 1984, Paris) continues, through roundabouts, keeping to the borders of sculpture and scenography, the designer training that the artist received at the Ecole Camondo, at the ESAD in Reims and at the Académie Charpentier.

Only retaining the pieces of furniture that he had then devised to create as skeletons, this exhibition is organized into two large groups, that of the “chairs” and that of the “cushions”. A space of refuge, motionless and mental, emancipated from the reign of the utilitarian, his creations appear as an alternative to human relations, made of body and words.

They give them an allegorical and ironic perspective, where each piece comes to life and dialogues with the one standing beside it, as on a frozen theater stage. Depopulated and emaciated, they animate the inanimate, questioning the spirit which innervates the most elementary structures. They tell of the loneliness and feverishness of human beings, the inevitable projection implied by the presence, even minimal, of the objects which surround us, the sole location of which makes sense. “I prefer objects to human beings, he declares, objects never disappoint us, never hurt us… They can even sometimes reach perfection. "

Once restored to their simplest device, these “chairs” and “cushions” weave relationships which, silent and colorful as they are, nonetheless remain infinitely subject to interpretation. If there is perfection, it is to be found in the void where these threadlike silhouettes flourish. It is a question here, by leaning towards them, of hearing them whisper.
