Katherine Dubourdieu

France

Biography

Katherine Dubourdieu believes her painting as an art in the service of welfare : this artist, also art therapist, likes to say that "art embellishes our lives". A dancer and a choregrapher, she started to give substance to her poetic universe by frequenting Sonia Kouyoumdjian.

Inspired by nothing and no-one else than her inner self, she developed a very personal style, with meditative characters evoking faraway lands, providing a tremendous feeling of serenity.

Katherine Dubourdieu's works also stand out by their substrate : she paints mainly on lokta paper, which she sometimes glues on hessian or on canvas board. By absorbing the liquid out of the oil paint, this paper gives her works a pastel appearance.

But whichever the substrate, her works share an amazing power of relief, and an invitation to empathy.
