Biography
Lucie Barra is a French artist living in Var. She studied painting with various local artists and at the Beaux-Arts and started her artistic career in 2010 with a series of female nudes that she exhibited in 2012 at the Base'Art salon in Fréjus.
In this series, entitled "Feminité", Lucie Barra paints in an instinctive, non-academic style, using oil that she applies on the canvas with knives. She uses pure colors and scratches and engraves the surface of the work with various tools. After this, she became more and more active and produced two new series : "Black and white" in 2013 and "Regards", still in progress.
Her current series, "Regards", focuses on faces. She paints anonymous or famous portraits (Lauren Bacall, Pénélope Cruz, Uma Thurman, Mia Farrow, Charlotte Gainsbourg...). It is not the fame of the model that she seeks. Lucies Barra tries to capture their emotional potential, their mystery, their fears. She uses knives, as in her previous series.
