Joël Barbiéro

France • 1948

Biography

Joël Barbiéro was born in 1948, from a Venetian father and a Parisian mother settled in France, Auvergne.

Canvas, paper, cardboard are the preferred mediums of the painter; he also uses magmatic rocks for monumental works (assemblages, panoramic orientation tables).

After different periods: rocky landscapes, falling stones (caduta massi), the work of Joël Barbiéro has evolved into a transposition of nature. Simple landscapes, land, vegetal, mineral - the work of Joël Barbiéro always depicts matter, a chromatic continuity and shadow and light.

Alongside his work as a visual artist, Joël Barbiéro has created and animated the workshop of lava enamelling between 1989 and 2006 at the "École départementale d'architecture de Volvic" (EDAV).
