Biography
Corine Pagny was born in 1959 in Saint-Pol-Sur-Mer. She is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqué et des Métiers d'Arts from Paris in 1981.
In her drawings, Corine Pagny explores and questions the symbols and myths the body is invested with. The ink mixed with water takes possession of the paper, the strokes mark the movements, like gestures of a dance. From a need to represent the body in motion, she fixed the line on the paper in a flow of warm tones that seeks for a flowering of the artistic gesture.
Through her drawings she tries to achieve a certain intimacy rather than an aesthetic effect... Every element speaks of life, freeing impulses that get organized horizontally. The horizontality as a "dance of life"", opposed to the "dance macabre" of Roman churches, a linear narrative flow... and the Belly Dance, a theme that she has been interested in since her discovery of the Middle East, that represents sensuality, femininity and the exacerbated voluptuousness.
