Franck Liv is a French artist born in 1990 in Guingamp, a Breton town with a medieval style, full of history and tradition.
Very early on, his drawing talents were noticed, drawing a castle on the painting at the age of five in front of his classmates, all admiring and silent. It was from this observation that his parents decided to enrol him in art classes. During his childhood, he quickly took pleasure in inventing stories and illustrating them in comic strips.
He began his studies in graphic design at the age of sixteen, when he entered the Lycée des Métiers d'Art Bertrand Du Guesclin. His choices led him to study Applied Arts, and to practice painting in lettering on large format panels. After leaving Brittany for Paris, it is from his studies in Graphic Design that his creativity takes a real turn: Typography became his new subject, opening up many possibilities for storytelling.
This will to create stories, he accompanies it to his canvases. Most of his friends point out to him that he rambles a lot, and that he never goes to the essential on the subjects of discussion. This is why he expresses everything that comes into his head on his canvases, intentionally mixing up the letters so that no one can understand his messages. Thus creating an almost calligraphic material, where the eye tries to cling to a branch, lost in a forest of letters.
His painting sometimes has something playful about it. The letters fit together, intertwine, or sometimes are woven together.
Finally for Franck Liv, the important thing is not that the viewer can read stories by following letters, but to feel a message carried by the entirety of each of his works.
