Biography

Lucas lives and works in Villefranche sur Mer, in the South of France.

"Moving away from any representation, I make various sculptures, most of which are" recumbent ": human-sized characters, built of iron or wood, and burlap.

Destined to live and die for some by their making, and to evolve in an urban environment, I deposit them in the streets, and in the squares of Villefranche sur Mer; Biot or Nice, during exhibitions or happenings, or even clandestinely, free. What touches and interests me is the material itself, and what the artist makes of it, in relation to a context.

My work is then made up of a plastic creation, which constitutes a work by itself, but is based on the creation of a moment and a presence: the Human presence. This presence that we constantly feel, which pierces us for example when we meet a look in an empty alley then takes possession of this piece of canvas and the place where it lies; it creates a moment, a link with the viewer, like a task on the landscape and in memory.

On the fold, the void, the full, I then mount the burlap, this material in its own right, to pay a tribute: a tribute to Man and to this presence that infuses his condition: strength and beauty to survive and shine together, in this extreme fragility that characterizes us. "
