Biography
Walter Anchico was born in Buenaventura, Colombia. He has lived and worked in France since 2007. He has had several personal and group exhibitions in France, Colombia and the United States. He studied fine arts in Spain and the United States. He has taught plastic arts at several universities in Colombia and London, England.
Since 2013, I have been trying to develop in my works the concept of two-dimensional space on an empty space. In my paintings, the stretcher is not just the support of the painting, but it is an integral part of the work. The empty space between the canvas and the frame gives the work a three-dimensional dimension, but the work remains a two-dimensional painting. I started to develop this concept with abstract painting; nevertheless, between 2017 - 2018, I made a series of figurative paintings on a conventional medium; in 2018, i incorporated figurative painting into the concept of two-dimensional space on empty space.
