Bronze Sculpture for Sale
Pierre CALOGERO is a self-taught French painter whose artistic universe explores memory, time and the fragility of the sensory world.
He was born in Paris in 1944. He gradually developed an abstract body of work where light and coloured vibrations convey an inner as well as an aesthetic quest.
It is part of a personal approach, attentive to the correspondences between nature, memory and imagination. Early years and evolution Initially inspired by the New York school and the Support/Surfaces movement in France, he worked independently and enrolled in the studio of the American painter Henri Goetz in Paris to refine his skills and learn engraving.
Abstraction as a language He very quickly abandoned the figurative for abstraction and devoted himself to creative research by working on drawing.
He embraces pure geometric abstraction as his primary means of expression, his main language. His regular practice of watercolor and black and white photography are the sources of his visual research and inspiration. Influenced by the Japanese concept of the "Ephemeral World," he creates paintings that invite contemplation and meditation.
Faithful to basic techniques, he makes his own colors from natural pigments which he works with using different supports.
Her creations blend abstraction and evocation of reality, in a balance between movement, silence, and emotion. Exhibitions and Recognition
From the early 1970s he began to show his work in solo or group exhibitions.
In 1976, the equivalent of the future Frac Ile de France took an interest in his work and bought one of his paintings during his first solo exhibition in Cergy Pontoise.
In 2001 he participated in the Fata Morgana exhibition at the Nicaise bookstore in Paris for his pastel illustrations of a poem by André Pieyre de Mandiargue alongside artists such as P. Alechinsky.
Since 2006, he has devoted himself full-time to his painting and exhibits regularly in institutional shows such as the Salon d'Automne in Paris, as well as in galleries.
