Léa Aquilina

Born in Pau in 1959, Léa Aquilina is a French painter. In 1993 she began painting at the Martenot school in Paris and trained in all techniques, to open after twenty years her own workshop in Clamart. A follower of oil painting and abstraction, Léa Aquilina offers a play of light and matter whose inspiration comes from her travels and observation of nature.

Passionate about Asian worlds, Léa Aquilina has been receiving teaching from the Chinese master calligrapher SHI Bo since 2016.

Graduated from the Chinese Academy of Paris, she validated the "Kaishu" and "Xingshu" course to follow today the third course "Sentences and poetic verses.

Artist statement:

“Do we know why a work touches us, grabs us and what part of us it awakens? I love this idea! That my creations can touch the heart, awaken a sleeping imagination or and be the echo of interior vibrations.

Abstraction is obvious to me, and for 10 years, I have been looking for how, through color, to fertilize the emptiness of the white canvas. How, through the intermediary of the brush, to breathe into the line its own breath and energy? How, through the balance of full and empty, do a harmonious work?

For me, the blank canvas is like a matrix, a field that must be sown, and where all possibilities can exist. Today I combine two worlds: that of abstract painting with oil paint and that of Indian ink. Two different techniques but each offering me a journey to endless destinations."
