Biography
Susana Machado was born in Portugal in 1972 and arrived in France at the age of 5.
In 1996 she obtained a scenography diploma from the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Between Lisbon and Paris, she creates sets and costumes for more than thirty live shows, theater, dance, or music, in Portugal, Belgium and France; as well as for cinema and television. At the same time, she teaches plastic arts in workshops, preparatory art schools, and schools in the city of Paris.
While watercolor and drawing are a constant throughout her work, for more than a dozen years she has devoted herself more particularly to painting, combining and juxtaposing techniques such as oil, acrylic, pastel, ink, collages, on paper, canvas, wood, or cardboard. The themes vary tirelessly, always strongly linked to the space: architecture, landscape, theater decor, or quite simply the format / medium with which she often plays between screen and off screen.
His imagination invokes humor and bright colors. The lines bind and loosen, the shapes intertwine, creating dynamic rhythms. Depending on her inspiration, sometimes she paints, glues, or even sews, leaving plenty of room for gestures and drips; sometimes she composes on papers of various formats whose material she likes to show and the immaculate white, or superimpose collages, pastels, inks, and having fun declining them in series.
