Presentation

Holder of a master's degree in Art History, Alexandre Valette is a complete artist, rocked by the work of the great masters. He explored drawing from a young age, first interested in human anatomy then in the principles of Western composition to finally arrive at abstraction. Studying the pictorial techniques of the great Renaissance masters, Alexandre quickly produced his own binders using traditional methods. He then sets out to discover his contemporaries aiming to explore painting in all its potential. Chemistry and craftsmanship became his new passions.

It is his encounters that forge him: a master poet, a manufacturer of colors, a musician. Learning is everywhere. He understands that being a painter is knowing how to see. And to see, you have to go. Passionate about the origins of civilizations as well as the first human artefacts, he is a tireless traveler. By traveling the world, while reading Shitao and the precepts of Chinese painting, his painting becomes more precise and he gradually eliminates the superfluous. His gesture becomes breath.

Today he presents the Eolithe series (dawn stone). With this collection, Alexandre combines two themes that have always accompanied him: monoliths and other Neolithic alignments as well as traditional Chinese painting. He is interested here in the sign and the trace. Starting from a canvas entirely covered with black oil, he engraves, removes the material in a unique gesture. "The gesture must be perfect, otherwise you just have to cover everything up and start over." He therefore reverses the principle of the blank canvas and interprets the unique feature specific to oriental calligraphy to engrave the illusion of an eolite.

Alexandre Valette has won various prizes, including the gold medal of the Grand International Competition 2011 of the National Federation of French Culture as well as the bronze medal of the Salon des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2016. He has been exhibited in several galleries including Galerie Natacha Dassault and more recently at Gauchet Fine Arts. His works have entered multiple private collections. A.G.
