Stéphane Gisclard
France • 1966
Presentation
French artist Stéphane Gisclard was born into a family of artists in Béziers in 1966. He attended the school of Fine Arts in Paris, as well as the workshops at Grande Chaumière in 1986.
His work is marked by the inspiration he takes from the great masters like Cézanne, Braque, and Léger, whose cubist influence is evident in the works alongside Gisclard's own artistic personality, which he has cultivated thanks to his exceptional mastery of light and shade. He also takes inspiration from dockside environments, big cities and cabarets. Women are frequently the subject of his works, and he constantly seeks to out-do his own previous creations.
The power and the purity of his touch recalls the Art Deco movement, which Gisclard is greatly interested in. His pictorial technique is inventive and he skilfully combines patinas, glazes and pigments to create palettes rich in shimmering ochres and flamboyant reds.
His work forms part of the permanent collection in the Estades galleries in Paris, Lyon and Toulouse.
