Biography
Laurent Monfrayx paints urban mantras under the pseudonym Lyx.
Each canvas is guided by a maximum of three words, repeated, fragmented, and layered until they become a visual rhythm. The gesture transforms writing into a vortex, repetition into a pulse, and language into raw energy.
His work falls within the realm of contemporary urban abstraction. Everything originates from the exterior, fragmented, multifaceted, and shifting, converging towards a center. This center acts as an open key, a space of condensation and intensity where the composition resolves itself.
At the crossroads of graffiti and urban mandala, his painting evokes contemporary calligraphy. Each work rests on a strong, taut structure that captures the eye and draws it towards a point of equilibrium. The canvases become architectures of signs, spaces of tension and convergence, leaving each viewer free to project their own interpretation, their unconscious, and their emotions onto them.
