M. Cohen

M.Cohen lives and works in the South East of France. She has a degree in plastic arts and Art History. Her artist's studio, in the heart of her house, recounts her work of passion: drawers, boxes and crates preserve, sometimes for several years, a whole collection of newspapers, old pages, forgotten paintings, invoices or doodles, waiting for another story to begin.

M.Cohen's work is as much about collage, as it is about painting and writing: the papers are apprehended as pieces of life, rediscovered and placed in situations of vicinity. Improbable encounters are then born. After a few battles, cuttings, superimpositions where the paper is roughed up and sometimes rolled, then glued, the artist “organises the chaos" with new interventions: by underlining, adding signs, punctuation, colours, by crossing out, subtracting, obscuring, opacifying, she aspires to create an intriguing and complex object, which offers to see and to dream.
