Biography

Thierry Sellem is a French painter, born in 1964. He studied at the Fine Arts school of Toulon, followed by a fashion designing school. He lives and works in Perigord.

The artist began by absorbing pictorial techniques of great masters, from the Renaissance period until cubism, from De Vinci to Picasso, not to mention Rembrandt and Vélasquez. Today, the artist is inspired by this contribution and depicts the things he learned in a contemporary manner, a little like Ernest Pignon Ernest and Jean Rustin.

The artist likes to represent urban spaces. He tries to find beauty in suburbs with dark shades, a little like a crime fiction atmosphere, which remind us of Patrick Modiano's novels. The artist plays around with lighting and contrasts, to make the visible invisible, through bewitching work which confides all the secrets of the city.
