Larisa Semke

Larigami, a name combining Larisa and Origami, describes Larisa Semke's distinctive approach to paper sculpture. Inspired by the principles of traditional Japanese paper folding, her practice expands beyond the single-sheet limitations of classical Origami. Instead, hundreds of precisely constructed geometric modules are folded and assembled into abstract, three-dimensional wall sculptures.

Each work explores the dynamic relationship between light, shadow, geometry, and space. The folded paper elements create intricate patterns and changing textures that respond to the viewer's position. From close up, the works reveal a precise and highly structured composition; from a distance, the surface appears fluid and almost in motion.

With a background in mechanical design engineering, Semke combines technological precision with the tactile possibilities of paper. Her works begin as digitally designed forms and are transformed into complex physical structures through cutting, folding, and assembly.

At the heart of her practice is the idea that a flat sheet of paper can contain the blueprint of a spatial body, revealing unexpected possibilities through geometry, material, and light.
