Jean-Luc Girard is a French artist born in Mali, Bamako. A self-taught artist who has a profound passion for color and light since childhood. After studying applied linguistics at the University of Mainz in Germany, he worked for more than thirty years as an interpreter, which led him to travel a lot, especially to the USA. He currently lives and works in Germany.
He draws his inspiration from the immensity and the grandiose landscapes of the United States with its megacities and its "road movie" sets but also from the wild mystery of the African nights with its colors, sounds and torpor. Thus expressing his fascination for the American cities and landscapes with the opulence and the colors of Africa, Jean-Luc Girard manages to create a particularly original mixture.
His work often reveals a preference for straight lines, geometrical construction and the planetary language of pictograms, but sometimes he chooses to be carried away by the infinity of chromatic and abundant resources of the tropical world of his youth. His colorful pictorial universe is made up of motifs coming from different topics: floral or vegetable elements, signs, logos and elements of urban decor.
