Biography
Born in 1976 in Chennai, Nandini Valli Muthiah received her Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Madras University in 1998, after which she received her Master's degree in French Translation and Interpretation from Pondicherry University in 2000. Muthiah then attended the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, where she trained as a professional photographer 2002 to 2005.
The underlying tone of Nandini's works is that of identity and of the “gaze", her own as well as of those whom she has photographed. Her work tries to answer the enigmatic question, “who am I?" Colour is very central to Nandini's work. Her photographs seek to reinvent the way we as people perceive and stereotype our beliefs as well as ourselves.
