Imam Sucahyo is a self-taught artist born in Tuban, East Java, 1978. From a neighbor who was a painter, Imam discovered a glimpse of the arts world. However, his quirky sense of artistry and tendency to perceive life differently were deemed too unconventional for his conservative surroundings. This situation has been his biggest obstacle but also a struggle that becomes his major source of inspiration.
Since then, he had lived in several cities in Indonesia such as Yogyakarta, Lampung, Jambi and Surabaya to work at various jobs while keeping his art practice as his visual diary. One of his favorite things to do while visiting new places is to listen to the local folklore. This story will then be merged with his own life experience into his art creations. Art has become a tool for Imam to reconcile with the reality that sometime does not correspond with his expectation.
