Biography
Michal Shtibel is an Israeli self-taught artist. Her figurative painting of female characters speak to the present and offer a glimpse into contemporary society endless quest for body image perfection, reflecting the ambivalence of appearance vs reality.
Shtibel creates playful portraits, bouncing between real life and fantasy. She described her creative process as a long and slippery experience, finding inspiration in her almost compulsive viewing and consumption of fashion photography.
She described her choice of subject as deeply intuitive: “there are paintings that only after years I understood why I had painted them".
