Shusaku Arakawa, born July 6, 1936 in Nagoya, Japan and died May 19, 2010 in New York, United States1, is a contemporary Japanese architect and visual artist.
After studying mathematics and medicine, Shusaku Arakawa turned to artistic creation in the Neo-Dada movement. He had his first personal exhibition in 1958. In 1960, he was co-founder of the Neo Dada Organizers group, before leaving for New York in 1961, where he has lived since. There in 1963 he met his future partner, the poet Madeline Gins, who would then participate in the creation of his works.
He also became an architect and made a career in this direction from the 1980s.
