Biography

At over 90 years old, Shosen Hamada remains an active artist and has trained many students. He is a judge for the Mainichi Shodo Association, Japan's largest calligraphy organization, and a director and judge for the Japan Academy of Calligraphy. He also serves on the jury of the Aki National Calligraphy Exhibition and is the director of the National Association for Calligraphy Education.
Awarded numerous prizes, Hamada's work is distinguished by its expressive and textured strokes, the result of years of practice. His calligraphy is also characterized by fine, delicate, and transparent lines, finding a perfect balance between strength and lightness. His refined artistry continues to redefine calligraphy as a modern art form.
