Rien Bekkers

Rien Bekkers is one of the Netherlands' most respected costume designers, with over forty years of work for leading theatre, opera, ballet, and film companies across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, including Toneelgroep Amsterdam and the Nederlandse Opera. Drawing on his deep knowledge of historical garments and love of craftsmanship, he creates sculptural “costume objects" — freestanding pieces that reimagine period dress as monumental, imaginative artworks. Now shifting focus from stage to studio, Bekkers combines his theatrical design expertise with sculptural ambition, positioning his latest works as timeless explorations of form, material and fantasy.
