Biography
Sophia Chioma Azoige is a multidisciplinary artist residing in River State, Nigeria. Was born in the year 1996 in Ikom. Grew up in Gboko, Benue State. Studied Fine and Applied Art at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt, River State. Inspired by the beauties of human existence alongside her life experience, she attempts to translate beauty and calmness to a broad spectrum of people, also believes life is a journey and one could encounter strains. Humans experience and express emotions in order to react to, interface with, and adapt to the physical and social environment, discussing issues of surviving in our community, trauma, and emotional imbalance.
"My messages are relevant to my context because it conveys emotions, confidence, self-love, serenity, and growth. These are things very important in terms of living. I believe that art communicates. Art enriches, informs, and at the same time questions our world. It has the power to change narratives and inspire social action by initiating vital conversations through the message it conveys. Most often, my creativity is based on sharing responses, opinions about life with others and also my experiences. Using my Art I want to contribute to society by redefining storytelling, stereotypes and giving a voice to the voiceless. My Art is a means to communicate ideas and set the mood for social change. Every piece I create is an extension of me, my life experiences, and my journey so far".
The ability to manage and modify one's emotional experiences and expression is thus important in everyday life. This led to the necessity of using colors, loosely detailed human forms, and lines to express the message on canvas.
