Biography

Adetoro Debas is a Nigerian visual artist based in Lagos, known for blending traditional and digital painting to create works that explore human connection, memory, family, and African culture. His style combines figurative forms with layered textures inspired by wood, patterns, and everyday life. He studied Art and Industrial Design at Lagos State Polytechnic, where he graduated as one of the top students in his department.

Over the years, Debas has continued to build a strong voice in contemporary African art through both physical and digital works. His recent body of work explores themes of motherhood, innocence, emotional bonds, and the quiet experiences that shape people’s lives. Through carefully arranged figures, expressions, and textures, he creates artworks that feel personal while still connecting with a wider audience.

Debas is the winner of the Next of Kin Series 8: Fragments of Being, where his work was also exhibited alongside other selected artists. The recognition marked an important moment in his journey as an artist and brought wider attention to his growing practice.
